NEW ADDITION TO 10-YEAR SMOKE ALARM RANGE

Kidde Fyrnetics has just launched its new 10-year guarantee battery optical smoke alarm to match its popular ionisation unit, completing the range specifically designed for fire and rescue services to use as part of Home Fire Safety Checks and similar initiatives.

The new PE910 optical alarm is almost identical in appearance to the 0910 ion model, allowing both to be used in different locations within a home for maximum effectiveness. Ionisation smoke alarms are sensitive to small smoke particles from rapidly burning, flaming fires but less so for smouldering fires and smoke that has traveled some distance. Optical Smoke Alarms are sensitive to larger particles from smouldering fires and less prone to nuisance alarms than their ionisation equivalents, especially from steam.

Both models in the range offer various benefits which single them out from competitors. They are BSi Kitemarked and fully guaranteed for 10 years. The sealed assembly prevents tampering while three lithium cells give maximum performance, with a generous reserve built in. A separate, adjustable base plate simplifies fixing to walls or ceilings and the alarm is activated only upon attachment to the base plate to ensure full 10-years performance from fitting. Once mounted the alarms are locked on, and require a screwdriver to release.
A distinctive red ‘Hush’ button is clearly differentiated for visually impaired people from the separate ‘Test’ button. The optical model has an insect screen to protect against ingress &  minimise nuisance alarms, which has been identified as an issue with some makes.
