Even if the new Regulation doesn't actually cover your type of heating, Kidde recommends that any home using fossil fuels* should be protected by an electronic CO alarm. Tragedies have occurred
where appliances in a neighbouring property have poisoned an occupant of next door.

*Be wary of buying Battery CO alarms that show only a CE Mark, if that; some products may show no approval marks at all.
A CE mark is applied when the manufacturer/importer has satisfied themselves regards compliance with the relevant European legislation on these products ie Electrical safety and Electrical Inteference (EMI).
Therefore, compliance with the CE mark requirements does not require any testing at all as to the product's ability to detect Carbon Monoxide.

Kidde only applies the CE mark (as below), following tests by independent, 3rd party laboratories; we do not believe self assessment by the manufacturer/importer gives the purchaser the necessary reassurance.

Additionally our CO alarms are independently assessed by BSI as to conformance with the relevant European Standard that exists for domestic CO alarms.

Smart Interconnect Hard Wired CO Alarms Features & Benefits

Fitting a CO alarm does not reduce the need for regular maintenance of all fossil fuelled appliances. UK tenants in rented dwellings have to have their gas appliances annually checked under the Gas Safety Regs, by a Gas Safe certified gas installer.

From April 2009 CORGI cease to be the provider and will hand over to Gas Safe, a new body responsible for Gas Installer Registration in the UK.,
but excluding N Ireland & Channel Islands.

Specifying CO Alarms

Guidance on selecting a quality carbon monoxide alarm

Only an electronic Carbon Monoxide alarm can alert the occupants of a dwelling to a build up of the potentially fatal CO fumes.
As can be seen from our Home Page "News" column, CO incidents are regularly occurring. (Click "News" link on left)

These events can lead to poisoning with some cases producing permanent damage to the brain or at worse death.

CO alarm as detailed below is undoubtedly a wise investment in your safety.

Take care in specifying & buying CO alarms that do not have 3rd party Accreditation re product performance: make sure it does what it says "on the tin",
